Cutting Metal Plate With Lasers
Lasers are used in many different ways, one of which is cutting intricate shapes from metal plate.
When a laser cutter is used to cut a metal plate, the laser cutting head must be adjusted accordingly. In order to cut specific shapes, the cutting head must be positioned above the plate, then moved over the shape of the desired part, cutting that part out of the plate.
To assist in this process, a capacitive height control system can be used. This works by maintaining very accurate distance between the end of the nozzle and the plate that is being cut. This distance is important, because it determines where the focal point is relative to the surface of the plate.
The quality of the cut can also be adjusted. This is done by raising or lowering the focal point from just above the surface of the plate, at the surface, or just below the surface.
