Does Laser Cutting Take Craftsmanship?

Laser cutting is a revolutionary way to speed up manufacturing times. The ability to program a series of pin point accurate cuts into a computer saves a massive amount of time, effort and money in any manufacturing process that requires any kind of cutting.

Gone are the days of a small group of highly skilled labourers working on a single cut for an entire day to get it just right.

But is this a bad thing? Has technology removed the need for human skill in favour of more efficient output?

I don’t believe so. While technology has surpassed human skill in many areas, humans simply need to inject the skill, talent and heart that went into traditional manufacturing, into other areas.

It is sad to see the old ways of manufacturing fade into the past. But it simply allows the craftsmanship to flow into other areas. Find an outlet for the craftsmanship somewhere else, be adaptable.
