Laser
Lasers were invented in the 1960s and were called “A solution looking for a problem”. Today lasers are used in thousands of applications across the world.
The word laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
Lasers can be found in most industries, including medical, construction, production, militaristic and scientific applications, with their uses increasing continuously. The use of lasers has grown to such an extent that we now rely on them.
The first use of lasers in the daily lives of the general population was the supermarket barcode scanner which was introduced in 1974. The laser disc player, introduced in 1978, was the first successful consumer product to include a laser, but the compact disc player was the first laser-equipped device to become commonplace in most households, beginning in 1982, followed shortly by laser printers.
