Making The Most Of Acrylic Materials

Many manufacturers chose acrylic as a primary material when producing plastic goods. This is due in part to the low cost associated with both the material and the cutting required. It’s also considered an attractive material, it has a glossy surface and comes in a variety of thicknesses and colours. The edges of laser-cut acrylic have a laser-polished look which is seen as a professional standard. When produced professionally acrylic usually comes with a paper masking on both sides.

Using acrylic does have some downsides however. It is somewhat brittle, so the person handling the material needs to be careful not to drop it. A heavy drop on the corner of an acrylic sheet can crack the entire thing, and a completely new one will need to be created. It’s recommended when getting acrylic cut to ask that the screw holes are cut also. This avoids any potential cracks being formed when trying to drill screw holes after production.
