Making The Most Of Acrylic Materials

October 27, 2016 Posted by:

Many manufacturers chose acrylic as a primary material when producing plastic goods. This is due in part to the low cost associated with both the material and the cutting required. It’s also considered an attractive material, it has a glossy surface and comes in a variety of thicknesses and colours. The edges of laser-cut acrylic have a laser-polished look which is seen as a professional standard. When produced professionally acrylic usually comes with a paper masking on both sides. Using acrylic does have some downsides however. It is somewhat brittle, so the person handling the material needs to be careful not to drop it. A heavy drop on the corner of an acrylic...

Cutting Metal Plate With Lasers

July 03, 2016 Posted by:

Lasers are used in many different ways, one of which is cutting intricate shapes from metal plate. When a laser cutter is used to cut a metal plate, the laser cutting head must be adjusted accordingly. In order to cut specific shapes, the cutting head must be positioned above the plate, then moved over the shape of the desired part, cutting that part out of the plate. To assist in this process, a capacitive height control system can be used. This works by maintaining very accurate distance between the end of the nozzle and the plate that is being cut. This distance is important, because it determines where the focal point is relative to the surface...

Lasers Types And Laser Power

June 25, 2016 Posted by:

Lasers work in different ways that are usually attributed to the type of laser that is being used. A combustible material such as wood must not, for example, be cut with oxygen, as the work-piece would catch fire. Depending on which laser is used, its power must also be adjusted accordingly to match the type and thickness of the material that is being worked on. More power doesn’t necessarily mean better results. A reduction in the laser power may be necessary to achieve high accuracy on complex shaped work-pieces or very small parts. In contrast a laser power of at least 1000 W is needed for cutting carbon steel thicker than 5/16”....

How A Laser Cuts Metal Plates

May 19, 2016 Posted by:

Lasers are used for many purposes in industry. A common way they are utilised, especially in manufacturing, is for cutting. For a laser beam to cut through metal it must be focused so that it is powerful enough to do so. This is achieved using special lens, or by a curved mirror, and this takes place in the laser cutting head. The beam is precisely focused so that the shape of the focus spot and the density of the energy in that spot are perfectly round and consistent Laser cutting is used to cut materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum plate. It yields excellent an excellent trim quality and also has a very small...

What Laser Marking Is And How It Works

March 28, 2016 Posted by:

Laser marking involves neither inks, nor drill bits that remove material to engrave a surface. Instead, a laser engraving machine is used, and a laser beam does the engraving. Laser engraving machines consist of a laser emitting device, a control interface, and a surface, upon which the material to be engraved will be placed. The engraving occurs when the material contracts the laser’s focal point. The high energy of the laser changes the material by vaporizing or fracturing it. In many cases, paint is lasered off of a metal to create the engraving. Because much of the high energy of lasers is converted into heat, it can remove material from...
